A An Instructional Guide To Evolution Korea From Beginning To End
Evolution Korea Until recently the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with creationists, afraid that it could give the movement more credibility. However, silence is no anymore an option. The STR has been fighting to remove evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. However, this is just one aspect of the development paradigm's evolution. What is Evolution? The theory of evolution is a scientific one that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adjust to their environment, which can result in changes to genes or entire genomes. Over time these changes could result in the creation of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people who have advantages survive and reproduce more than those with disadvantageous ones. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the emergence and evolution of new species. The term “evolution”, which comes from the Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in many different ways as the concept has changed in both science and in other fields. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. The term”transmutation” was coined by the Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term “evolution” from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that existing species change into different species in an orderly and predictable manner. Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process in which living organisms develop traits to increase their chances of living or conceiving offspring. In time, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. This change in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and it drives most evolutionary change. However Evolution KR -genetic changes like increases in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise cannot be considered examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations. Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven valid by a multitude of scientific tests and that it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary history of humans and Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur believed to be the bird's ancestor. Why is Evolution Important? Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also a foundation of biology and helps scientists learn how living organisms function and develop. Evolution also shows the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution to better comprehend nature and make valuable discoveries such as new drugs. The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so many aspects of the universe and life on earth, and it has been rigorously tested and confirmed over many years. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology isn't in conflict with religious beliefs as it only addresses physical objects, events, and processes. Many religious people have come up with a way of reconciling evolution with their beliefs. For example, some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution and that humans have an ancestral lineage with other animals. It is important for science educators to stand up for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, anti-evolution sentiment has been rising. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the avian ancestor Archaeopteryx. It is vital to remember, however, that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and even the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence. The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. This support is based on many different reasons. Scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions such as the development of new medicines, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have a strong religious belief in God. What is Creationism? Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything within it. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be interpreted in a literal manner. Although not all creationists are Christian but they are a majority. Creationists generally fall in two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC). The YECs are perhaps the most well known type of creationist and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was literal and that the universe as well as life on Earth were created only recently. OECs are not as well-known however they are as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions of years old, and believe that evolution is a myth. Both forms of creationism deny the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life started on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the founders of modern science rejected miracles out of fear of losing credibility. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary as well as special creation. They refer to their belief as “theistic evolution.” This is sometimes also referred to as “continuous creationism” or “evolution from the original species.” The theory says that God creates species from scratch and allows them to change over time. In the end, these evolutionary changes will produce new species that are identical to the original species. Other creationists hold that God created the universe and all living things in one event, referred to as the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all species were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis and argue that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable. In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are however more flexible and allow both creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula. What is Creationism? When people think of creationism, many of them think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their editions. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. It is now focusing on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research as well as on human evolution too. STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individuals. Its goal, it says, is to rid the world of what it calls “atheist materialism” that paints a negative view for students. It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in evolution. The causes aren't clear, but may include religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists across the United States. The KACR accomplished a number of things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences with an orthodox creationist perspective, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today. On August 6 and 7 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six foreign lecturers including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed thousands of people. KACR members and KACR have also presented lectures on creation science in major seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
